
No. 11 Lions Sweep No. 32 UCLA to Complete the California Trip 4-0

LOS ANGELES – The No. 11 Lions dominated the courts Thursday afternoon at No. 32 UCLA to earn a 4-0 sweep of the Bruins. With the win, Columbia finishes its California spring break trip with a perfect 4-0 record that includes wins over three ranked opponents.
Columbia improves to 11-1 overall this season and extends its win streak to 11 matches as Ivy League action approaches. The 11-1 start is the team's best since the 2014 season when the Lions also were 11-1 and finished the season 22-2 overall. The 2014 squad achieved a 20-match win streak en route to the NCAA Championships.
The Lions got the match started by quickly winning the doubles point. The duo of Theo Winegar and Michael Zheng posted a 6-1 win over Giacomo Revelli and Patrick Zahraj in the No. 1 doubles. Brothers Alex and Nicolas Kotzen clinched the doubles point for Columbia with a 6-4 win against Timothy Li and Azuma Visaya at the No. 3 doubles.
Nicolas Kotzen kicked off singles action with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Visaya at the No. 4 singles to put the Lions up, 2-0. No. 75 Westphal followed that up with a 7-6(7-4), 6-4 win against Aadarsh Tripathi in the No. 3 singles.
Hugo Hashimoto finished off the Columbia sweep with a win in the No. 5 singles. Hashimoto posted a 7-5, 7-6(7-0) win over Stefan Leustian to clinch the team win.
Roko Horvat and Westphal's doubles match went unfinished. No. 16 Zheng, Alex Kotzen and Henry Ruger also competed in singles matches that went unfinished.
