Diakova finishes top-12 in 3-meter finals
MORGANTOWN, W. Va. -- On the first day of the 2023 NCAA Zone Diving Championships, senior diver Jonathan Suckow qualified for his fourth consecutive NCAA Swim & Dive Championship with a first-place finish in the 1-meter event.
Suckow had an average score of 65,72 per round in the 1-meter finals, helping him to win the event in dominating fashion. He has now qualified for the NCAA Championships for four consecutive years, equaling the Columbia record of Jayden Pantel '18CC who was Columbia's first ever four-time qualifier. Suckow remains undefeated on the season.
Meanwhile, junior diver Alice Diakova had a great showing for the Lady Lions in the 3-meter event. After a great performance in the prelims, Diakova had an average score of 46.63 in the finals on the 3-meter boards, and finished in 12th place, putting her in position to qualify for multiple events at NCAA's.
"Jonathan continued what is a historic run today," Head Diving Coach Scott Donie said. "He remains undefeated, and I am super proud of him for qualifying for his fourth consecutive NCAA Championships. On the women's side, this was also a major accomplishment for Alice. This was a breakout performance and I couldn't think of someone more deserving. I am looking forward to seeing what she can do tomorrow."
For those that advance, the NCAA Swimming & Diving Championships will begin on March 24 in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
