NEW YORK — The No. 10 Columbia men's tennis team picked up a pair of 7-0 victories against Hofstra and Bryant in a doubleheader at the Milstein Family Tennis Center Saturday. The Lions improve to 12-2 on the year as they head into conference play next weekend.
 
Against Hofstra, the Lions claimed the doubles point after identical 6-4 wins by the pairs of Theo Winegar and Michael Zheng at No. 1 and Ishaan Ravichander and Henry Ruger at No. 3.
 
Columbia made quick work of the Pride in singles with Zheng and Ruger earning clean sweeps (6-0, 6-0) in the NO. 1 and No. 6 positions. Nicolas Kotzen picked up a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Josh Reynolds in the No. 4 spot and Henry Ruger rolled to a 6-1, 6-1 triumph over Vincent Turina at No. 5.
 
At No. 3, Max Westphal downed Matt Garcia by a score of 6-2, 6-3. The most competitive match of the opener came at No. 2 with Roko Horvat outlasting Bo Cauterts 7-5, 7-6.
 
Columbia started the nightcap strong against Bryant, sweeping all three matches and earning the first point. Winegar and Zheng earned a 6-2 win in No. 1, Horvat and Westphal won by the same margin at No. 2 and Nicolas Kotzen paired with Ravichander for a 6-3 decision in the No. 3 slot.
 
Ruger earned the first singles victory, coasting to a straight-set win and dropping just one game in the second set, at No. 5. Westphal downed Diego Serra 6-2, 6-0 at No. 3 and Ravichander clinched the match with a 6-0, 6-1 decision in the No. 6 position.
 
In No. 4 action, Kotzen defeated Nick Lorenz 6-1, 6-2 and Michael Zheng won in straight-sets 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 1. Horvat put the finishing touches on the second sweep with a 6-4, 6-0 victory.
 
UP NEXT
The Lions open up Ivy League play on the road Friday, April 7 against No. 49 Princeton. First serve is slated for 2 p.m.
