Men's Track & Field Victorious over 38 Schools at Colonial Relays

Women finished the competition in fifth place

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – The Columbia track & field team competed at the Colonial Relays hosted by William & Mary over the weekend. The men's team placed first overall in a field consisting of 38 schools, while the women's team also excelled and finished in fifth place in the competition. 

In addition to the overall team success, the Lions set multiple program records over this past weekend in Virginia. Yoosang Kim had dominant first-place finish in the men's shot put, winning the event with a school record mark of 16.91m. Chris Balthazar also set a program record in his first-place finish in the 100m dash, clocking in at 10.35. McKinlee Morris also set a program record in the women's shot put with a mark of 

Balthazar's impressive day continued for the first-place men's squad as he went on to win the 200m dash (21.18) as well. Other gold medal winners on the men's team included Devon Davey in the 400m dash (47.78) and Mason McVey in the Pole Vault (4.55m). The 4x400 relay team consisting of Jahi Hernandez, Haydn Brotschi, Max Comfere, and Davey also finished in first place with a time of 3:14.17.

Tess Darnell had the highest finish of the weekend for the women, placing second in the 400m hurdles with a time of 1:02.95. Nanette Collins also had a second place finish in the javelin throw with a mark of 34.06m. Michelle Lee & Seraiah Bruno both had a mark of 3.20m in the pole vault to tie for second. Olivia Schmitt took third in the 800m run with a time of 2:13.57. Sydney Goldson and Amara Onyeukwu finished third and fourth, respectively, in the 400m dash.

Next weekend, the Lions will look to continue their string of great performances at the Mets Outdoor Championship on Randall's Island.
