NEW YORK – The Columbia track & field team had another very busy weekend, sending student-athletes to compete in three different meets. The first, which began Thursday afternoon, was the Virginia Challenge. Then, the Wake Forest Invitational began on Friday morning. Lastly, the Mark Young Invitational took place earlier this morning. Spanning all three competitions, the Lions had many great performances.
Columbia's most success came at the Mark Young Invitational.
Kayla-Rae Gordon won the women's hammer throw with a mark of 52.20m.
Naomi Toft placed second in the 800m run with a time of 2:15.71. For the men,
James Chung won the 100m dash with a time of 10.88s.
Simon Skoumal took second in the hammer throw with a mark of 52.97m.
The Lions' highest finish on the men's side in the Virginia Challenge was
Devon Davey, who took second in the 400m run with a time of 47.36. On the women's side,
Lilly Bradley had the highest finish, taking fourth place in the 5000m run with a time of 17:07.56.
Meanwhile, Columbia sent a group of its top mid and distance runners to compete at the Wake Forest Invitational, where the runners had historic day.
Victoria Patterson paced the women with a second place finish in the 3000m steeple chase, clocking in at 9:51.02 which set the record for the best time in the history of Columbia. The men had two second place finishes, with
Justin O'Toole taking silver in the 800m run with a program-record time of 1:47.84, and
Matt Gatune securing second in the 800m run with a time of 1:50.83. Meanwhile,
Phoebe Anderson had the second best time in program history in the 1500m run, clocking in at 4:15.97.

Next weekend, Columbia will be competing in the Penn Relays and the Yale Springtime Invite. The Penn Relays will start first, on Thursday morning.
