Women’s Tennis Sweeps Yale, 4-0

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – For the second time this season, Columbia is victorious over Yale. With the possibility of still winning an Ivy League Championship, the Lions took care of business Saturday afternoon with a 4-0 sweep on the road.
The Lions will have to beat No. 69 Brown on the road Sunday and have some help with a Princeton loss to secure the Ivy League championship.
With today's win, Columbia improves to 11-7 overall this season. The Lions are 5-1 in the Ivy League as they are riding a four-match win streak coming into Sunday's match at Brown.
Columbia got the day started by taking the doubles point with wins in the No. 2 and 3 spots. The duo of Shivani Amineni and Rachele Rimondini took a 6-2 win against Ann Wright Guerry and Chelsea Kung in the No. 2 doubles. Winta Tewolde and Michelle Xu earned a 6-4 win over Jamie Kim and Sophia Zaslow in the No. 3 doubles.
Anna Zhang and Sophia Wang were defeated by Rhea Shrivastava and Vivian Cheng, 3-6 in the No. 1 doubles.
Zhang, Tewolde, and Xu posted wins in singles play to lead the Lions to a quick 4-0 sweep on Saturday.
In the No. 1 singles, Zhang won a 6-2, 6-4 match against Kung. Tewolde fought to take a 6-4, 6-1 win over Shrivastava in the No. 2 singles. Xu clinched the Columbia win with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Zaslow in the No. 6 spot.
Rimondini played the No. 3 singles, Fatima Keita played the No. 4 singles, and Clarine Lerby played the No. 5 spot as they all led their matches when the Lions clinched the team win.
