CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Based on Friday's results in the Ivy League, Columbia has a clinched a spot in the Ivy League Softball Tournament that will take place in May. The Lions will be in as the three our four seed depending on the final regular season results.
The Lions move to 16-21 overall this season with an 11-9 mark in Ivy League play after dropping both games at Harvard on Friday. The teams will meet in the series finale on Saturday at 10:30 a.m.
GAME 1
Columbia jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning on a
Cami Neal RBI single through the left side that allowed
Jaden Hill to score.
Harvard put up a two-spot in the bottom of the second to take the lead for good as the Crimson would hold on to take the 2-1 win.
Right-hander
Raquel Reyes (8-7) suffered the loss as she tossed all 6.0 innings. Reyes allowed two runs on four hits as she struck out two.
GAME 2
The Columbia bats got going in the second game of the afternoon as
Caroline Palys,
Bubba Gleaves, and
Georgia Corey launched home runs.
The Crimson struck first with three runs in the bottom of the third inning. Harvard would add another run in the bottom of the fourth to tie the game after the Lions plated four runs in the top of the frame.
Palys got the top of the fourth inning started with a solo home run over the left field wall.
Megan Ryono then reached on a single up the middle, and
Jaden Hill doubled down the left field line to put two Lions on with two outs. Gleaves stepped up next and belted a three-run shot over the left field wall to temporarily give the Lions the lead.
Columbia would again briefly reclaim the lead in the top of the fifth inning as
Georgia Corey launched a solo homer over the left field wall to put the Lions up, 5-4. Harvard would answer back with a run in the sixth to tie the game. The Crimson would walk it off in the bottom of the seventh to take the 6-5 win.
Jordan Hill (6-11) was charged with the loss as she fired 4.1 innings, allowing five runs on seven hits.
Charlotte Laidler came in and tossed 2.1 innings as she gave up one run on three hits.
UP NEXT
The Lions and Crimson wrap up the series on Saturday morning. First pitch has been moved up to 10:30 a.m. due to expected weather in the area later in the afternoon.
