COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — Columbia women's basketball alumna
Camille Zimmerman '18CC has been named to USA Basketball's team for the 2023 FIBA 3x3 Women's Series, the 3x3 women's professional circuit. The team,
announced on Wednesday, will compete at select 3x3 Women's Series events this summer with the goal of ultimately qualifying for the 2023 FIBA 3x3 Women's Series Final, Sept. 16-17, in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia.
Along with
Zimmerman, the USA roster includes
Cierra Burdick,
Blake Dietrick,
Linnae Harper,
Alexis Peterson and
Breanna Richardson. Damon Huffman will serve as the team's head coach.
This will be Zimmerman's third go-around with USA Basketball. The 2018 graduate made her USA Basketball debut at the FIBA 3x3 Women's Series Montreal Stop in September of 2021. A year later, she earned a spot on the USA Women's 3x3 AmeriCup Team, winning bronze and being named to the all-tournament team.
Aside from USA Basketball, Zimmerman has played professional 3x3 for the last two seasons with Force 10, a WNBA-invested pilot program. Zimmerman won the Redbull Circuit with Force 10 each of the last two seasons. Additionally, she competed for EXE Wing (Japan) in 2022-23.
Shortly before graduating in 2018, Zimmerman became the second Columbia women's basketball player to sign a WNBA free-agent contract when she signed on with the Minnesota Lynx. After being waived, she went on to play overseas for teams in Finland (2018-20), Sweden (2020-21), Switzerland (2021-22) and Spain (2022-23). Her Finnish team placed first in its league, Naisten Korisliiga, before the pandemic ended the 2019-20 season.
A two-time First Team All-Ivy League selection and the 2016-17 All-Met Div. I Women's College Basketball Player of the Year, Zimmerman graduated Columbia as the program's all-time leader in scoring and rebounding. She accumulated 1,973 points and 940 rebounds in four seasons and is also the single-season record holder in scoring (608 points, 22.5 points per game).
The full schedule for the 2023 FIBA 3x3 Women's Series can be viewed
here.
Different than 5-on-5, 3x3 is played on a half-court with a 10-minute game clock and a 12-second shot clock. Play is continuous, as teams "clear" the ball behind the 2-point line following a made basket, defensive rebound or steal. The first team to score 21 points via 1-point field goals or 2-pointers behind the arc is victorious; or if time expires then the team leading wins.
