
Athletics Hosts Coach and Staff Mental Health Forum

The full day seminar featured discussions on personal mental health and support for Columbia student-athletes
NEW YORK - On Tuesday, June 6, Columbia Athletics hosted its first-ever Coach and Staff Mental Health Forum in Lisa Landau Carnoy Lounge in the Dodge Physical Fitness Center. The event, a full-day seminar-style learning opportunity open to all coaches and administrative staff in the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics and Physical Education is expected to become an annual event.
The Mental Health Forum agenda focused on education, awareness and support as it relates to personal mental health as well as tips and techniques to safeguard and monitor mental health and well-being concerns of Columbia student-athletes.
"One of the most important things we do in our athletics program is to provide holistic 360-degree support to the more than 750 young men and women who compete for Columbia in our athletics program," notes Peter Pilling, Columbia's Campbell Family Director of Intercollegiate Athletics and Physical Education. "We are committed to their success and well being both in and out of competition, and look to provide them with resources and life skills that will serve them well long after graduation from Columbia."
Speakers featured at the forum included professionals from Columbia University's Counseling & Psychological Services, Office of Religious Life, and the Department's own Success Through Well-Being office.
