Columbia posts one of the nation’s top 25 GPAs
NEW YORK – The Columbia University women's basketball program has landed on the 2022-23 Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) Academic Top 25 Team Honor Roll. The WBCA announced its winners Tuesday morning.
The WBCA Academic Top 25 recognizes NCAA Division I, II and III, NAIA and two-year college women's basketball teams across the nation that carry the highest combined GPAs inclusive of all student-athletes on their rosters for the entire season. The 2022-23 season is the 28th in which the WBCA has compiled the honor rolls.
This is Columbia's fourth time making the list and its first such appearance since 2008-09. Among those four seasons, the 2022-23 Ivy League champion Lions posted the highest team cumulative GPA, registering a 3.566 this past academic year. Columbia is the lone Ivy League school to rank in this year's WBCA Academic Top 25 Team Honor Roll.
Adding to its academic prowess, the 2022-23 Lions posted an unprecedented 28-6 overall record, including a second-straight 12-2 Ivy campaign that earned the Lions a share of their first regular season championship. Columbia's 28 wins bested its 25 from the year prior for the most in program history. Columbia went on to accept a bid to its second-straight Postseason WNIT, where it advanced all the way to the championship game against Kansas. The Lions are the only program in Ivy League history to advance to the tournament's title game.
The Lions will soon return to campus to begin preparations for another championship run in the 2023-24 season.
