Wrestling and fencing in action
NEW YORK — Columbia wrestling and fencing are featured in this week's edition of Lions on the Road. Every week, GoColumbiaLions.com will be using "Lions on the Road" to preview that week's upcoming games and events happening off campus.
WRESTLING
The wrestling team will continue its road stand this weekend with matches at Princeton and No. 22 Penn to open the Ivy League slate. The Lions travel to Princeton for a 7 p.m. match Friday before wrapping up the weekend with a 1 p.m. match at Penn Sunday.
Columbia had last week off, but traveled to Army in their last match on January 14. Army earned a 25-13 dual win over the Lions. Four Lions earned wins in the dual, highlighted by Lennox Wolak's top 10 victory over Army's No. 10 Ben Pasiuk. Wolak has posted wins in six of his last seven matches and will look to continue the strong streak this weekend in the first Ivy League duals of the season.
FENCING
Columbia is back in action Sunday when they make the short trip to Brooklyn for the LIU Shark Showcase. The Lions will have three dual matches throughout the day, starting with Princeton at 11:15 a.m., followed by St. John's at 12:30 p.m. and LIU at 2:15 p.m.
Columbia competed twice last weekend at the St. John's Super Cup and Philadelphia Invitational. The men went a perfect 9-0 in the two events, including a pair of wins over defending National Champions, Notre Dame. The women ran the table at St. John's to earn the team title, but split four decisions the next day in Philly. The Lions have one more tuneup next weekend at Wagner before the Ivy League Championships on Feb. 10-11.
