NEW YORK — Columbia Director of Rowing Tom Terhaar has announced the addition of Noah Axford and Maggie DeVlieger as assistant coaches for all three rowing programs.
Axford rowed all four years at The George Washington University, graduating in May 2023. At GW, Axford won the 2022 ACRA National Championship in the Men's 8+ and finished second in 2023. In the 2022-23 season, Axford captained the team at GW and received Third-Team All-ACRA and Second-Team All-Academic honors. He will also serve as a boatwright at Columbia.
Axford graduated with a B.A. in Political Science with minors in Economics and Data Science. Axford contributed to research within the political science department on the effects of racial demographic change on political thought and the prevalence of political violence.
DeVlieger is a 2017 graduate of Columbia and has remained actively involved with the Alumni Association, contributing to its endeavors in various capacities. During her four years as a Lion, DeVlieger earned both silver and gold medals at Eastern Sprints in 2014 and 2017, respectively. DeVlieger has since trained and competed with the Undine Barge Club of Philadelphia and the New York Athletic Club.
DeVlieger holds a B.A in Film and Media Studies from Columbia and she has played integral roles in Emmy-nominated documentary films while also leading marketing initiatives at Comcast and Microsoft. DeVlieger thanks her father, Paul, and her high school coach, Mike Brown, for introducing her and her three sisters to the sport of rowing.
All three Columbia rowing teams begin the 2024 spring season on March 30. The lightweight crew hosts the National Collegiate Invite, the heavyweight crew hosts Dartmouth, and the women's crew will race in the Doc Hosea Regatta.
