Maggie Gavin joined theย Columbia rowing staff in January 2024 as anย assistant coach.ย
In 2026, Columbia women's rowing earned its first-ever NCAA Championship appearance, racing in three Third Finals at Lake Lanier Olympic Park in Gainesville, Georgia. Columbia finished 15th in the Points Trophy Standings with 49 points. The Lions' historic season also featured a second place finish for the First Varsity Eight at Eastern Sprints.ย Columbia also finished in fourth place in the Varsity Eight Grand Final to headline the Lions' performances at the Ivy League Championship on the Cooper River. A day later, Columbia was selected to the NCAA Championship.
Gavin wasย tabbed as part of Division I Region I Coaching Staff of the Year, as voted on by CRCA Member coaches.ย In addition, seniorย Emily Bukowskiย was selected as a CRCA Pocock All-American Honorable Mention. Bukowski raced out of the No. 2 seat in the First Varsity Eight boat that bested most of its regular season opponents (Boston College, UConn, Holy Cross, Northeastern, Navy, UMass, Bucknell, URI, Cornell, Temple, Rutgers, Notre Dame, BU, Harvard-Radcliffe, and Dartmouth), while only falling to Brown.
A 2017 graduate of Columbia, Gavin has remained actively involved with the Alumni Association, contributing to its endeavors in various capacities. During her four years as a Lion, Gavin earned both silver and gold medals at Eastern Sprints in 2014 and 2017, respectively. Gavinย has since trained and competed with the Undine Barge Club of Philadelphia and the New York Athletic Club.ย
Gavinย holds a B.A in Film and Media Studies from Columbia and she has played integral roles in Emmy-nominated documentary films while also leading marketing initiatives at Comcast and Microsoft.ย Gavin thanks her father, Paul, and her high school coach, Mike Brown, for introducing her and her three sisters to the sport of rowing.
