Women's Tennis, Field Hockey, Volleyball, Cross Country, and Women's Soccer all in action away from home this weekend
NEW YORK — Columbia women's tennis, field hockey, volleyball, cross country, and women's soccer are featured in this week's edition of Lions on the Road. Every week, GoColumbiaLions.com will be using "Lions on the Road" to preview that week's upcoming games and events happening off campus.
WOMEN'S TENNIS
The Columbia women's tennis team continues its fall season this weekend at the Notre Dame Invitational. The Lions will compete on Friday, Saturday and Sunday in South Bend as part of a hidden dual format with matches against players from Michigan, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Northwestern, Illinois and Tulane. Columbia opened its fall season with an impressive showing against Stony Brook, Cornell and Indiana in a hidden dual format at the Columbia Invitational. Gayathri Krishnan, Malak El Allami, Fatima Keita and Sophia Strugnell all competed at ITA All-American Championships last week. The duo of El Allami and Keita were the highlight of the trip as the team advanced to the doubles qualifying draw.
FIELD HOCKEY
The Lions (2-5, 1-1) look to snap a three-game losing streak this weekend. Columbia has played in six straight games decided by a goal, including four straight 1-0 decisions. Lindsey Yu leads the team with two goals while Delfina Gonzalez Lobo has an assist on the year. Goalkeeper Katie Wimmer is second in the country in save percentage (.873) and fifth with 8.9 saves per game. Wimmer leads the Ivy League with 70 saves, which is 23 more than the next conference goalkeeper. The senior captain currently ranks fourth all-time in program history with 283 saves.
VOLLEYBALL
Volleyball continues its opening Ivy League road trip this weekend with two games scheduled. First, the Lions will take on Harvard on Friday followed by Dartmouth on Saturday. The Crimson are 6-4 so far on the season, while the Big Green are 7-4. Both teams only have one Ivy contest, having played each other last week with Harvard emerging victorious in four sets. Both teams have one common opponent so far with the the Lions. Harvard swept Stonehill in the season opener, who Columbia beat 3-2 later in the season. Dartmouth owns a win over Providence, but the Friars beat Columbia in four sets earlier this year at the Friar Classic. The Lions are coming off a very tight game against Cornell last weekend, in which they went up 2-0, but the Big Red fought back to win the match 3-2.
CROSS COUNTRY
Both the men's and women's cross country teams return to action this weekend, traveling to Pennsylvania to take part in the highly regarded Paul Short Run. The 50th anniversary of the event will feature the largest fields in the history of the Paul Short Run. 164 women's teams and 150 men's teams will toe the line over four different scored races and one open race. College teams will represent each region of the country and Canada. The Columbia men are in the gold race which will take place at 11:00 a.m. and the Columbia women will feature in the brown race at 2:30 p.m. The women are fresh off a solid performance at the Nuttycombe Invite last weekend, where Phoebe Anderson finished fourth in a very talented field for which she was named Ivy League Cross Country Female Athlete of the Week.

Columbia (3-3-3, 1-0-0 Ivy) continues its conference slate this weekend on the road at Harvard (4-1-4, 0-1-0 Ivy). First kick in Cambridge, Massachusetts is slated for 4 p.m. Columbia enters the weekend on a two-game win streak after defeating Providence and Penn in the past two weeks. The Lions have scored seven goals to post two straight shutout victories. Sam Cohn, Dema Elder and Stephanie Jung scored in Columbia's win at Penn last weekend to start the Ivy League schedule. Nata Ramirez leads the Lions with five goals this season. In total, nine different Lions have scored at least one goal this season.
