NEW YORK – The last two undefeated teams in Ivy League play meet up on Saturday, October 26, when the Columbia football team hosts No. 22 Dartmouth on Homecoming. Kickoff is slated for 1:30 p.m. ET and the game will be broadcast live on ESPN+ with Lance Medow handling play-by-play and Shawn FitzGerald '80 as analyst.
OPENING DRIVE
• The Lions won at Franklin Field for the first time since 1996 after taking down Penn, 23-17, last weekend.
• Columbia received five votes in the latest AFCA Coaches Poll.
• Chase Goodwin was named Ivy League Offensive Player of the Week, while Hugo Merry was named Special Teams Player of the Week. It is the third time the Lions have had multiple weekly award winners this season.
• Columbia is leading the Ivy League in four offensive categories (total offense, rushing offense, third down conversions and red zone offense) and is among the national leaders in each statistic.
• Defensively, the Lions are at the top of the Ancient Eight in scoring defense (No. 6 in FCS), rushing defense (No. 9 in FCS) and interceptions.
PENN LEFTOVERS
• Hugo Merry set Columbia's record for most consecutive field goals with his ninth straight make in the second quarter, surpassing the mark set by Oren Milstein in 2016. Merry's streak was halted at 11 after a miss in the fourth quarter.
• Chase Goodwin became the first Lion to throw for over 300 yards in a game since Anders Hill against Marist in 2017.
• Anthony Roussos posted his first double-figure tackle game of the season with 12.
A COLUMBIA WIN WOULD...
• Give the Lions sole possession of first place in the Ivy League.
• Be Columbia's second victory over a ranked opponent this season.
• Improve Columbia to 3-0 in Ivy League play for the first time since 2017.
SERIES HISTORY
Columbia and Dartmouth will meet for the 94th time in a series that dates back to 1899. The Big Green are 72-20-1 all-time against the Lions, including two straight victories and winning four of the last five meetings.
Columbia's last victory over Dartmouth was a 19-0 shutout in Hanover on October 22, 2021. The Lions' last home victory over the Big Green was a 9-7 decision on October 22, 2016.
LAST YEAR'S MATCHUP
Dartmouth scored 20 unanswered points to defeat Columbia, 20-9. After the Lions went up 9-0, a blocked punt in the endzone got the Big Green on the board. Dartmouth used a long 7:17 drive to take the lead early in the second.
Dartmouth took advantage of a short field after an interception and made it 17-9 after a 54-yard field goal with 2:19 left in the second. The Big Green started the fourth with another long field goal, making it a two-possession game.
The Lions had two opportunities in the red zone but could not convert on fourth down to pull any closer.
Malcolm Terry II rushed for a career-high 62 yards on 17 carries. Anthony Roussos had 12 tackles. The Lions held Dartmouth to 61 passing yards, which was a season-best and the lowest total for the Big Green.
DARTMOUTH'S STATUS
• Dartmouth is the third-ranked scoring offense in the Ivy League and is second in rushing yards per game (170.8). Q Jones is second in the Ivy League in carries (89), third in yards (374), and fourth in yards per game (74.8). Grayson Saunier is tied for the Ivy League lead in rushing touchdowns (5) and fifth in yards per carry (6.1).
• Dartmouth is the second-ranked passing defense and third-ranked rushing defense in the Ivy League. Josiah Green is tied for first in the Ivy League in sacks (2.5), tied for first in sacks per game (0.5), tied for second in TFLs (6.0), and tied for second in TFLs per game (1.2). Cameron Lee is tied for the Ivy League lead in sacks per game (0.5) and second in sacks (2). Ejike Adele is third in the Ivy League in TFLs (5.5) and third in TFLS per game (1.1).
• Dartmouth is fourth in the Ivy League in average kickoff return yards (20.3). Owen Zalc is perfect on PAT attempts (16-16) and leads the Ivy League in field goals made (9).
HOMECOMING HISTORY
Saturday will mark Columbia's 83rd Homecoming Game, which dates back to 1941. The Lions are 25-56-1 all-time and will aim for their first win on Homecoming since 2021 (23-14 vs. Penn). Columbia and Dartmouth have previously faced off 11 times on Homecoming, with the Big Green holding a 7-4 edge.
