Philadelphia, Pa. -- The Columbia volleyball team was swept (25-7, 25-23, 25-20) by the Penn Quakers on Friday night in Philadelphia.
After a rough first set, the Lions fought back in set two to try and get back in the match. Penn took an early 11-6 lead, but Harper Justema and Eva Atkins helped ignite an 8-3 run with a combined five kills to even things up at 14. Avery Jones capped the run with a kill, to give the Lions their first lead of the match since the first rally of the game. Penn hung around, and eventually tied the set up at 22, and then scored two more points and was serving for the set. Columbia fought off one set point, but the Quakers would win the set 25-23. Penn would coast to a win in the final set, and complete the sweep.
Justema led the Lions with seven kills in the match, and Eva Atkins added six kills. Clara Yu tallied 22 assists. Delaney Seaman and Anna Gioranidi both colelcted five digs.
The Lions are back at it tomorrow at 5 p.m. against Princeton in New Jersey.
