NEW YORK — Columbia Athletics released its most recent version of its "All-31 Sport" Photo today on its social media channels. The photograph, featuring student-athletes from every Columbia varsity team, was taken from the Overlook at Hunters Point Park South in Long Island City, Queens, with the Midtown Manhattan skyline serving as the backdrop.
The photograph, the seventh in a series that began in 2015, was taken by Michael F. McLaughlin and Mark Smith and was edited by Carlisle Stockton of Stockton Photo, Inc.
"We are extremely proud to represent one of the greatest cities in the world, which makes our All-31 Team Photo so special each year," said Peter Pilling, Columbia's Campbell Family Director of Intercollegiate Athletics and Physical Education. "Showcasing our student-athletes in front of the iconic skyline of New York City embraces our identity that 'ONLY HERE,' there are unlimited possibilities."
"There is no shortage of scenic locations to stage our annual celebratory image of the only Ivy League athletics program in New York City," notes Alex Oberweger, Associate Athletics Director for Strategic Communications. "As the only NCAA Division I athletics program on the island of Manhattan, it is natural that our student-athletes be depicted with the spires of midtown lit up behind them."
"We are grateful for the New York City Parks Department for making this location available to us. In particular we thank Monet Davis and Michelle Young for their logistical support, and Stockton Photography's Mike McLaughlin and Mark Smith for their hard work in staging and shooting this year's photograph."
Previous photographs in the series have featured Columbia's campus locations Low Library (2015) and Revson Plaza (2021), across the river from the New York skyline in Hoboken, New Jersey (2016), the crossroads of the world, Times Square (2018), Bethesda Terrace in Central Park (2022) and Josie Robertson Plaza at Lincoln Center (2023).
