BOCA RATON, Fla. – The Columbia softball team lost to Florida Atlantic, 9-0 Saturday evening at FAU Softball Stadium. The Lions drop to 0-3 to start the 2024 season.
Florida Atlantic put up a two-spot in the bottom of the first inning to quickly take the lead. An RBI double off the bat of Kiley Channell scored the first run for the Owls. Jesiana Mora then hit a two-out double to bring the second run across.
The Owls added four runs in the third inning and three runs in the fourth to extend the lead to 9-0 over the Lions. A solo homer from Kamryn Jackson got the scoring started in the third. A series of a base hit and back-to-back doubles brought three more runs across. FAU struck for two runs on four hits in the fourth to further extend the lead.
Columbia couldn't bring any runs home in the top of the fifth, which ended the game with FAU earning the 9-0 run rule win in five innings.
Jaden Hill and
Eleni Katsivalis were the only Lions to record hits in Saturday's contest. Hill had a leadoff single in the top of the first. She moved over to second on a sacrifice bunt from
Cami Neal, but was left stranded as
Savanna Messner and
Georgia Corey were struck out to end the frame.
Columbia's next hit came in the top of the fifth when Katsivalis lined a two-out single through the left side. She was left stranded as
Maddie Souza was struck out to end the game.
Raquel Reyes (0-2) suffered the loss. Reyes worked 2.2 innings and allowed six runs on seven hits.

Columbia closes out the weekend at the FAU Owl Classic with a doubleheader Sunday against Rhode Island at 9 a.m. and Florida Atlantic at 11:30 a.m. The Rhode Island game will be streamed on
FloSoftball, while the FAU game can be viewed through
FAUSports.TV.
