Men’s and women’s squash earn their first Ivy League win of the season
HANOVER, N.H. – The Columbia men's and women's squash teams posted wins on the road at Dartmouth on Saturday afternoon. The win marks the first Ivy League victory for both squads this season.
"Two good team wins today," Kenneth W. Torrey Head Coach of Squash Chris Sachvie said. "It's one of the longer road trips of the year for us, so it's easy to come out flat and the teams rose to the occasion. We're proud of the performance and excited to take on Harvard tomorrow."
The 7th-ranked men's team took a 7-2 victory against No. 9 Dartmouth to improve to 5-5 overall this season with a 1-3 mark in Ivy League action.
Columbia lost the No. 1 and 2 matches, but dominated down the rest of the lineup to collect seven wins to clinch the team victory.
Shaurya Bawa, Laszlo Godde, Zach Nam, Paarth Ambani, Rutvik Rau and Adam Goad all won via three-game sweeps against their opponets. Jacob Bulbulia needed just four games to win in the fifth spot.
The No. 12 women's team also dominated down the lineup to earn the win over No. 9 Dartmouth. Columbia won the top five matches and claimed wins in the No. 8 and 9 spots to claim the victory.
The reigning College Squash Association (CSA) National Champion, Simmi Chan kept her perfect record intact with a dominat, 11-4, 11-1, 11-4 win against Dartmouth's Maria Clara Ramirez Velasquez in the top match.
Erica McGillicuddy, Nourin Khalifa and Advita Sharma also won in three games against their opponents. Sarah Cao, Aleeza Khan and Kaavya Bansal won their matches in four games to help Columbia seal the win.
