Pine notches Lions' highest finish with 13th place in platform competition
PRINCETON, N.J. -- After three incredible days, the 2024 NCAA Zone A Diving Championships have concluded at DeNunzio Pool of Princeton University.
Macy Pine and Joseph Nicol had the top finishes for the women and men, respectively, but unfortunately no Lions qualified for the NCAA Championships.
A full recap from the meet can be found below. Results from the entire meet can be found HERE.
DAY ONE
Joseph Nicol highlighted day one for the Lions. In a very deep field of 54 divers, Nicol qualified for his first NCAA Zone final in the 3m, and finished in 16th place with a score of 628.30.
"Really proud of Joe," Head Diving Coach Scott Donie said. "Joe showed he has the ability to compete for a spot at the NCAA Championships. We have some work to do and time to refocus on tomorrow's 1m event."
Meanwhile, for the women, Alice Diakova led the way with a 39th place finish in the 1m prelims with a score of 231.15. Neither Diakova or Chloe Leung (63rd place) qualified for the finals.
"Solid day for the women's divers but not enough to make the finals," Donie said. "Time to rest up and get ready for tomorrow!"
DAY TWO
The women kicked things off on day two with the prelims of the 3m competition. In a field of 75 divers, Macy Pine had the highest finish for the Lions, placing 25th with a score of 255.35. Alice Diakova closed her collegiate career with a score of 238.50 which was good for 37th place. Chloe Leung placed 61st with a score of 202.80.
"Alice finishes her season in fine form and retires as the career high point winner in Ivy League competition and a program record holder in the 3 meter event," Donie said. "I couldn't be more proud!"
On the men's 1m boards, Joseph Nicol missed out on qualifying for the final by just 10 points. His score of 282.80 was good enough for 21st place.
DAY THREE
Day three consisted of the platform diving competition. Macy Pine was Columbia's only qualifier, and she did not disappoint. She took home the Lions' top finish at zones, finishing in 13th place with a score of 433.00. This was her third consecutive zone final in the platform competition.
"Another very consistent and confident performance from Macy," Donie said. "A great way to cap off an amazing season!"
Columbia's 2023-24 season has now concluded. The NCAA Swimming & Diving Championships will be held from March 20-23 in Athens, Ga. for the women and from March 27-30 in Indianapolis, Ind. for the men.
