INDIANAPOLIS – The Columbia women's basketball team is headed to the NCAA Tournament for the first time in program history and will face Vanderbilt in a First Four contest. The game will take place Wednesday, March 20, at Cassell Coliseum on the campus of Virginia Tech at 9 p.m. ET and will air on ESPNU.
As co-regular-season champions of the Ivy League, Columbia (23-6, 13-1 Ivy) earned an at-large berth into the tournament, marking just the second time the conference has received two bids to the Big Dance. The Lions received a No. 12 seed in Regional 3 in Portland, and the winner of the First Four matchup will face No. 5 Baylor in Blacksburg, Virginia on Friday at 6 p.m. ET on ESPNU.
The Lions won 21 of their final 23 games of the season to earn a share of their second-straight Ivy League Championship and set a program record with 11 consecutive wins from January 27-March 15. Along the way, the Lions earned significant wins against No. 25 Princeton, Villanova and Seton Hall. They advanced to the Ivy League Tournament Championship Game for the second time in the last three years. The team's 23 wins in the regular season tied the program record they set last season.
Columbia and Vanderbilt will meet for the third time with the Commodores holding a 2-0 edge in the previous two matchups. The teams last played on Nov. 13, 2022, with Vanderbilt taking a 74-63 win in Levien Gymnasium.
