Columbia opens Ivy League play March 30

HOUSTON, Texas – The No. 31 Columbia women's tennis team completed its trip to Texas with a 4-0 win over Tulsa on Sunday.

The Lions rolled through doubles action to take the point and secure an early 1-0 lead. The duo of Sophia Strugnell and Gayathri Krishnan cruised to a 6-0 win over Myroslava Zelenchuk and Tayla Wilmot in the No. 2 doubles.

Anna Zhang and Sophia Wang posted a 6-4 win against Tulsa's Maria Berlanga Bandera and Lily Hutchings in the top doubles match to clinch the doubles point for the Lions.

Winta Tewolde and Rachele Rimondini played against Oleksandra Nahurska and Ana Naranjo Martinez in the No. 3. The match went unfinished, tied, 4-4.

Columbia finished off the 4-0 win with three singles victories. Zhang earned a 7-5, 7-5 win over Bandera in the top singles. Gayathri Krishnan defeated Martinez in the No. 4 singles, 6-1, 6-4.

Fatima Keita clinched the victory for Columbia after battling through a tiebreaker in the second set to secure a 6-2, 7-6(2)

Columbia has a week off before returning to action to begin the Ivy League slate. The Lions will host Cornell on Saturday, March 30 for a 12:00 p.m. first serve at the Philip and Cheryl Milstein Family Tennis Center.
