Men’s Squash Defeats Virginia at CSA National Championships

Columbia will face Harvard Sunday at 10:30 a.m. for the final match
PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – The sixth-ranked Columbia men's squash team went down to the wire against No. 10 Virginia, but held on to earn a 5-4 victory Saturday afternoon at the Arlen Specter US Squash Center.
The Lions earned their second win over Virginia after opening the season with a 7-2 win over the Cavaliers.
Saturday's match came down to the end. With the score tied at four, Adam Goad won in three games against Virginia's Maxwell Velazquez, 13-11, 12-10, 11-9 in the No. 8 spot to clinch Columbia's 5-4 win.
Shaurya Bawa, Laszlo Godde, Paarth Ambani and Thomas Soltanian also earned wins in the match.
Bawa posted an 11-4, 6-11, 11-8, 11-9 win over Myles McIntyre in the No. 3 position. Godde followed in the No. 4 spot with a thrilling five-game win against Arhan Chandra, 15-13, 11-4, 13-15, 5-11, 11-7.
Ambani cruised in three games to earn an 11-8, 11-7, 11-9 win against Francis Hajek in the No. 6 spot. Soltanian earned an 8-11, 11-8, 11-8, 11-4 win over CJ Baldini in the No. 9 position.
Columbia will wrap up the CSA National Championships with a match against No. 4 Harvard at 10:30 a.m. Sunday. The Lions will look to avenge the 6-3 loss to the Crimson back on February 4.
