Women’s Tennis Defeats Brown in Regular Season Finale

Columbia finishes 5-2 in Ivy League play

NEW YORK – The 48^th-ranked Columbia women's tennis team battled past Brown, 4-1, to close out the regular season Sunday afternoon at the Philip and Cheryl Milstein Family Tennis Center.

Columbia won the doubles point to get the match started. The duo of Gayathri Krishnan and Sophia Strugnell forced a break to earn a 6-4 win over Ali Benedetto and Addison Ahlstrom in the No. 2 spot. The top duo of Anna Zhang and Sophia Wang posted a 6-4 victory against Phoebe Peus and Lindsey Hofflander to clinch the doubles point for the Lions.

Krishnan and Zhang picked up singles wins to put Columbia up, 3-0 to get singles actions started. Krishnan rolled to take a 6-2, 6-1 win over Nora Lee in the No. 4 spot. Zhang then posted a 6-3, 6-1 victory against Benedetto in the No. 2 spot.

Brown earned its lone team point of the match as Peus took a 6-3, 6-3 win against Fatima Keita in the top singles match.

The Lions quickly responded as Julia Haynes finished off a 6-4, 6-1 win over Gabby Soliman in the No. 3 singles to clinch Columbia's 4-1 victory.

Columbia will now turn its attention to the NCAA selection show on Monday, April 29 at 6:30 p.m. to see if the Lions will qualify for an at-large bid.
