Women’s Tennis Falls Short at Princeton

Columbia falls to 1-1 in Ivy League play
PRINCETON, N.J. – The No. 44 Columbia women's tennis team came up short on the road at No. 52 Princeton, 4-3, on Friday afternoon.
Princeton posted wins in the No. 2 and 3 doubles to open the match with a 1-0 lead. Alice Ferlito and Neha Velaga earned a 6-3 win over Rachele Rimondini and Winta Tewolde in the No. 3 doubles. Maia Sung and Madeleine Jessup defeated Sophia Strugnell and Gayathri Krishnan, 7-5 in the No. 2 spot to clinch the doubles point.
Krishnan, Tewolde and Sophia Wang won their singles matches to force the match to be played out. Krishnan battled through three sets to defeat Ferlito, 3-6, 6-1, 6-0 in the No. 4 singles. Tewolde took a 6-4, 4-6, 3-1 win in the No. 5 spot after Jessup retired. Wang earned a 7-6, 6-2 win against Eva Elbaz in the No. 6 singles.
Columbia returns home to finish the weekend against No. 70 Penn. First serve inside the Philip and Cheryl Milstein Family Tennis Center is set for 1 p.m.
