Baseball Eliminated From Ivy Tournament With Loss to Princeton

Fellows drives in four runs; Vaughn matches season-high with six K’s

NEW YORK — Columbia baseball's season came to a close on Saturday with a 16-6 loss to No. 2 seed Princeton on day two of the Ivy League Tournament from Robertson Field at Satow Stadium.

Princeton (18-25) jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the first on four hits. Lions starter Joe Sheets was able to work through trouble and stranded two runners.

The top-seeded Lions (26-18) climbed back into the game in the home second to slim Princeton's lead to 3-2. Anton Lazits laid down a perfect bunt for a hit and the throw went into the outfield to bring in Jack Cooper. Cole Fellows then drove in Columbia's second run on a sacrifice fly.

Columbia then went in front 5-3 in the third inning with a bases-clearing double by Fellows. The Tigers took another lead the next half inning with four runs. Princeton took a 7-5 advantage with three run-scoring hits and an RBI groundout.

The Tigers expanded their lead with five more runs in the fifth inning on a pair of home runs. Princeton would tack on four runs in the ninth inning.

James Vaughn tossed 3.2 scoreless innings out of the bullpen and tied his season-high with six strikeouts. Baylor Hicks also posted a scoreless outing, getting the final two outs in the ninth.

EJ Kreutzmann blasted his first home run of the year with two outs in the bottom of the ninth.
