Columbia student-athletes registered a percentage of 98 percent or higher for the seventh time in eight years
NEW YORK — According to Columbia Athletics' Success Through Well-Being's Spring 2024 Employment Report, 98 percent of Columbia University's Class of 2023 student-athletes reported securing post-graduate plans. The data does not include six class members who did not respond.
Of Columbia's graduating student-athletes who reported post-graduate plans, 73 percent secured full-time employment, 20 percent are attending graduate school and the remaining alumni are involved in various other opportunities (e.g., fellowship, internship, and gap years).
Various industries are represented among the student-athletes who secured full-time employment, including finance, consulting, health care, tech, engineering, sports, fashion, law, government and entertainment.
The Columbia Athletics Class of 2023 is employed by companies and organizations such as Jet Blue Airlines, Google, Goldman Sachs, Amazon and more.
These numbers reflect Columbia Athletics' mission: "to maximize the opportunities for our student-athletes to reach their highest levels of achievement — here at Columbia and for the rest of their lives." The Class of 2023 data is consistent with the success that student-athletes have achieved over the last eight years: 2015 (99%), 2016 (98%), 2017 (98%), 2018 (99%), 2019 (98%), 2020 (92%), 2021 (99%), 2022 (98%).
"We set the bar high when it comes to setting our student-athletes up for success after their college careers are over, and I am so pleased that we continue to hit these types of marks," Columbia University's Campbell Family Director of Intercollegiate Athletics and Physical Education Peter Pilling said. "The dedication our student-athletes show in their time at Columbia will be a tremendous asset in their lives moving forward. I know they will continue to make us incredibly proud in whatever comes next."
"Our Success Through Well-Being staff continues to provide the tools our student-athletes need to succeed at the next level, and I am grateful for all of their work. We also need to thank the support we receive from campus partners at the Columbia University Center for Career Education and Beyond Barnard. On top of that, we appreciate all of our loyal alumni, who continue to serve as mentors to help our student-athletes navigate their career paths."
The Columbia Athletics Success Through Well-Being (STWB) program works to provide student-athletes with holistic support services that assist in achieving success personally, academically, athletically, and professionally. The following six core support services are provided to student-athletes: academics, career development, mental performance, sports nutrition, leadership, and well-being.
