NEW YORK — Director of Cross Country/Track & Field
Daniel Ireland has announced the addition of 34 newcomers to the cross country and track & field programs. The class consists of
20 women, 14 men, and 10 cross country runners.
"We are very excited about the class of 2028!" Ireland said. "These athletes will have an immediate impact on our cross country and track & field teams across all event areas. This group will bring a lot of excitement and drive that will motivate everyone to be better!"

The cross country season begins next weekend on Saturday, September 7 with the Fordham Fiasco.
Annie Killian is a 5'7" middle distance runner from Phoenix, Arizona out of McClintock High School. While there, she was the four-time winner of Cross Country MVP Award, three-time winner of the Track and Field MVP award, held a school record for both the 800m and 4x400m races, and was an 800m DII state champion in 2023. Academically, Killian was the Valedictorian and a consistent honor roll student.
Ryan Son is a 6'0" distance runner from Wichita, Kansas out of Wichita East High School. While there, he was a five-time state medalist in cross country and track and field, and a thirteen-time state qualifier. He made cross country All-Metro in 2021, 2022, and 2023, while making Track and Field All-Metro in 2022, 2023, and 2024. He also held a school record in the 5k race. Ryan was an AP scholar with distinction and participated and medaled in many different competitions such as the Science Olympiad, the DECA state conference, and the Business Professionals of America.
Leigh Foran is a 5'4" middle distance runner from Westport, Connecticut out of Staples High School. While there, she was captain of the Track and Field team, Made All-FCIAC for both indoor and outdoor Track, and was a two-time women's soccer state champion. Academically, Leigh was the Valedictorian, president of both the national and math honor society, vice president of the science honor society, and an AP scholar with distinction. She also won multiple awards such as the principal's award, the national merit scholarship, the News12 Scholar-Athlete Award, and the Staples High School Scholar-Athlete Award.
Scarlett Martin is a 5'7" distance runner from San Diego, California out of Cathedral Catholic High School. While there, she won a team state championship in Cross Country, and held a school record in the 3200m race and two relays. She was the captain of both the cross country and track and field teams. Academically, Martin won the California Scholarship Federation President's award, had a distinguished status in the national honor society, and was given the highest honor in the California Scholarship Federation.
Ava Thomas is a 5'3" distance runner from Haddonfield, New Jersey out of Haddonfield Memorial High School. While there, she was a two-time All-American, Cross Country team captain, four-time Camden County champion, and a two-time Cross Country Colonial Conference champion. Academically, Thomas graduated with Summa Cum Laude honors, was a member of the national honor society, and won the Colonial Conference Liberty Division Scholar-Athlete Award.
Isabella Shertzer is a 5'6" middle distance runner from Lancaster, Pennsylvania out of McCaskey High School. While there, she was a New Balance National All-American, held regional and school records in the 800m race and 4x400m and 4x800m relays, and was a state champion in 4x800m and 4x400m relays. Academically, she was a national honor society member, a Landis Brackbill Scholar-Athlete Award candidate, and a Lancaster-Lebanon League Scholar-Athlete.
Caroline Adams is a 5'6" distance runner from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania out of Mt. Lebanon High School. While there, she was a three-time state medalist, and nine-time WPIAL medalist. Adams was also inducted into the Lebanon High School Hall of Champions in 2023, and won the Mollenaur WPIAL Track and Field award. Academically, she was a national honor society member, a member of the Cum Laude Society, and a recipient of the Rochester Institute of Technology Math and Science Book Award.
Sofia Fenton is a 5'6" distance runner from Tappan, New York out of Tappan Zee High School. While there, she was All-League, All-Country, and All-Section in cross country and track, and two-time athlete of the season at her high school. She holds a school record in the indoor 1500m race and both the indoor and outdoor 4x800m relay. Academically, Fenton is a National Honor Society member and also a member of the History and Spanish Honor Society. She has obtained the New York Seal of Biliteracy in Spanish and won the Rockland Country Scholar-Athlete Award.
Harrison Goldenberg is a 6'0" sprinter from Greenwich, Connecticut out of Greenwich High School. While there, Harrison was a three-time All-American, won the Track MVP award, and has multiple All-State, All-Country, and All-New England recognitions. He was also recognized as the FCIAC Scholar-Athlete in Spring 2024.
Caden Cutchall is a 5'9" sprinter from Dallas, Texas out of Dallas Jesuit High School. While there, he set the record in the 4x400m relay, was a two-time MVP award winner, and was named his school's greatest scholar athlete his senior year. Academically, Cutchall is a National Merit Commended Scholar, top ten Texas State Policy Debate Tournament finisher, and scholarship winner for excellence in Math and Science. He also received the National Latin Exam Cum Laude award and the Texas Elite Track and Field Academic All-State award.
Sid Karthodi is a 5'11" sprinter from Skillman, New Jersey out of The Lawrenceville School. While there, Karthodi was an All-American and a New Jersey Prep A State Champion. He also played football as a wide receiver before switching mainly to track. Academically, he was an AP Scholar with distinction and was on the high honor roll.
Medrith Norman is a 5'4" sprinter and hurdler from Frankfort, Kentucky out of Frankfort High School. While there, she was a three-time state champion and was also an All-American. She holds the Kentucky High School state record for the indoor 400m race, and also holds seven records at her high school in both indoor and outdoor track. Academically, Norman is a member of both the National Honor Society and the National Beta Club. She was also the runner-up in the 21-22 Kentucky Educational Television Young Writers' Contest Poetry Division.
Perry McElhinney is a 5'9" distance runner from Las Altos, California out of Castilleja High School. While there, she was a Cross Country League Champion and MVP, Team MVP, and three-time California state meet qualifier.
Avalyn Mostyn is a 5'7" sprinter from Houston, Texas out of St. John's School. While there, she was part of the Swedish Relay and 4x100 school record-breaking teams, was a Texas Relays 100m qualifier, and was given the Not Without Honor Athletic Award. She was also a two-time voted Track Outstanding Athlete. Academically, she was an AP Scholar with Distinction and Honor, Cum Laude Society member, and National Merit Scholar. Mostyn was given the Upper School Literary Award and Nominated for multiple different Excellence Awards.
Olivia Sterling is a 5'5" sprinter from Tampa, Florida out of Armwood High School. While there, she was a two-time MVP, Team Captain, and District Champion. Prior to arriving at Columbia, Sterling obtained an Associate's degree at Hillsborough Community College.
Olivia Murray is a 5'7" distance runner from Livingston, New Jersey out of Pingry School. While there, she was the indoor and outdoor track captain, and obtained twelve varsity letters. Murray is also a National Merit Commended Scholar.
Kylie Castillo is a 5'5" sprinter from Ridgefield, New Jersey out of Ridgefield Memorial High School. While there, she was a five-time state group champion, eight-time state sectional champion, two-time All-County, and thirteen-time league champion. Castillo also won the Joseph Taub Scholar Athlete Award, Tom Zaccone Track Award, and has obtained the New Jersey State Seal of Biliteracy in Spanish.
Ralph Brown is a 5'8" distance runner from Munster, Indiana out of Munster High School. While there, he was the Highland Sectional Cross Country Champion, the Valparaiso Regional Event Champion, Conference Cross Country Champion, and All-Conference in Track and Cross Country. Academically, Brown is a member of the National Honor Society, four time recipient of the Scholar-Athlete award, and was Academic All-State for both cross country and track and field.
Kambinachi Obioha is a 6'1" runner from Wauconda, Illinois out of Northridge Preparatory School. While there, Obioha set seven school records, and was a two-time state champion. He was given the Senior Athletic Award, NCAC Sprinter of the Year award, Most Outstanding Performer award, and Most Valuable Performer award. He also won the Lysle K. Butler Award for Academics. He spent the last three years on the track & field team at Oberlin College.
Rafaela Drake is a 5'8" triple jumper and long jumper from Durham, North Carolina out of Riverside High School. While there, she set school records in both the triple and long jump, and was an indoor triple jump state champion. Drake was also awarded the Senior Female Athlete of the Year award. Academically, she was Salutatorian and president of the Spanish National Honor Society.
Sean O'Brien is a 5'5" sprinter and hurdler from Westfield, New Jersey out of Westfield High School. While there, O'Brien set school records in four different races, and was a 55m State Champion. O'Brien is also a member of the National Honors Society for academic achievement and plans on minoring in music.
Brayden Hill is a 5'9" distance runner from Lone Tree, Colorado out of Rock Canyon High School. While there, Hill was the team captain of his school's first cross country team State Championship, set school records in 3200m, 4x800, and 4x1600, and was the Rock Canyon High School Athletic Wall of Honor recipient.
Madison Williams is a 5'4" jumper from Middletown, New York out of Pine Bush High School. While there, she was a state champion in both the long and triple jump, set a section nine state record for the triple jump, and won the New York State Scholar-Athlete award.
Collin Moore is a 6'2" high jumper from Bend, Oregon out of Summit High School. While there, he was a two-time state champion high jumper, and also a state champion in both football and basketball. Moore was a student body representative for two years and graduated with an Honors Diploma to recognize his academic achievement.
Lily Cregan is a 5'8" thrower from Barrington, Rhode Island out of Barrington High School. While there, Cregan set a 140' 2" personal best for the hammer throw, and a personal best of 46' 3.5" for the weight throw.
Nathan West is a 6'0" thrower from Rexford, New York out of Christian Brothers Academy. While there, he was a Scholastic All-Star for the Capital Region of New York, a two-time Times Union Athlete of the Week, and the Bishop Loughlin Champion for shot put. Academically, West achieved the highest honor roll. He also won the LaSallian Education Award and the Scholar-Athlete Award.
Anthony Colucci is a 5'9" thrower from Coventry, Rhode Island out of Coventry High School. While there, Colucci was the New Balance Nationals Rising Stars Hammer Champion, and was All-Division in the shot put, weight, and hammer throws. He is a member of the National Honors Society and World Language Honor Society, and received the Saint Michael's Book award before graduating with the highest honors.
Joshua Yoon is a 5'10" jumper from Cresskill, New Jersey out of Cresskill High School. While there, he set a personal record in the 100m at 10.94 seconds, in the Long Jump at 6.98m, and Triple Jump at 13.97m. Academically, Yoon is a member of the National Honor Society and Spanish Honor Society. He was also All-State in both the second Chair Orchestra and Wind Ensemble.
Lucy Markow is a 5'6" pole vaulter from Seattle, Washington out of Bishop Blanchet High School. While there, she was a two-time track and field MVP, two-time county and district champion, and won third place at the State Championship back to back years. She graduated with high honors as a member of the National Honors Society, and won the Scholar Athlete award.
Rocco Carpinello is a 5'11" jumper from West Islip, New York out of West Islip High School. While there, he was a New York State and Federation Champion, four-time Track and Field MVP, and set school records for indoor and outdoor long jump and triple jump. Academically, Carpinello is a member of the National Honor Society, and graduated as an honor roll student and AP scholar with distinction.
Liam Wright is a 5'10" pole vaulter from West Hartford, Connecticut out of Hall High School. While there, he was a New England champion, three-time state open champion, and New Balance National Rising Stars champion. He also was a two-time All-State student and athlete and received the Dale Harper Award. Academically, Wright was an AP scholar with distinction and an elected member of his school's student body government.
Josie Rempe is a 5'10" sprinter and jumper from Mechanicsville, Virginia out of Atlee High School. While there, she made multiple state championship appearances, was the track and field All-Metro athlete of the year, and scored 51 points in a single state meet. Rempe also was given the Hanover Scholar Award for academic achievement.
Viktoria Mihaylova is 5'10" jumper from Belgium out of École européenne de Bruxelles 2. While there, she was a three-time national champion of Belgium in the triple jump, and received the Baccalauréat Européen Zward.
Henry Koike-Sieira is a 5'9" distance runner from Brooklyn, New York out of Hunter College High School. He was a 2022 PSAL City Champion in the 3000 Steeplechase, a 2024 PSAL City Champion in the 3200m, came in third place at Feds, and was an All-American 4x in 2023.
