THE FACILITY
Located in the heart of the Bronx, Van Cortlandt Park has been referred to as the “Heart of Cross Country” as over the last 100 years, the park has played host to some of the greatest meets ever witnessed on United States soil. Columbia’s men’s and women’s cross country teams use the park for training and to host meets. Many of the nation’s and East Coast’s top meets are held at Van Cortlandt Park, including the Ivy League Championship and ECAC/IC4A Championships.
The 2019 Ivy League Heps Cross Country Championships will be held at the park.The Ivy League Men’s Cross Country Championships have been held at Van Cortlandt Park in 74 of the 82 years since the event began operation in 1939 (1939-46, 1948-78, 1980-2010, 2015 and 2017). Since 1977, the Ivy League Women’s Cross Country Championships have taken place at Van Cortlandt Park in 33 of the 42 years (1980, 1982-2010, 2015 and 2017).
Van Cortlandt Park is a 1,146-acre park located in the borough of the Bronx in New York City. Owned by the New York City Department of Parks and Recreation, it is managed with assistance from the Van Cortlandt Park Alliance. The city’s third-largest park was named for the Van Cortlandt family, which was prominent in the area during the Dutch and English colonial periods.
Along with several miles of paths for running and perfect for cross country, Van Cortlandt Park’s sports facilities include golf courses and facilities for baseball, basketball, cricket, football, horseback riding, lacrosse, rugby, soccer, softball, swimming, tennis and track and field. The park also contains five major hiking trails and other walking trails.
