Columbia plays at Penn Friday, returns home to host Princeton Sunday
NEW YORK – The Columbia men's and women's squash teams continue the Ivy League schedule this weekend with contests against Penn and Princeton.
Columbia will travel to face Penn at 2 p.m. Friday before returning home to host Princeton at 1 p.m. Sunday at the SL Green Streetsquash Center in Harlem.
MATCH COVERAGE
Friday's match against Penn will be streamed live through the Penn Stretch Portal, while Sunday's match will be streamed live though the Columbia Stretch portal. Live scores for all matches will be available through Club Locker.
COLUMBIA IN THE RANKINGS
The Columbia men's squash sits at No. 8 in the College Squash Association rankings with a 4-2 overall record so far this season. The Lions have won four of their last five matches after falling to Virginia in the season opener in November. Columbia went 1-1 last weekend with a narrow loss to Harvard and a 6-3 victory over Dartmouth.
The Columbia women's squash team is ranked No. 9 in the CSA rankings with a 3-3 overall record this season. The women also split last weekend's action with a loss to Harvard and a win over Dartmouth.
THE LAST TIME OUT
The Columbia men's and women's teams earned dominant wins over Dartmouth this past Sunday to close out the weekend with their first Ivy League victory of the season. Arhan Chandra, Yusuf Sheikh, Zach Nam, Imad Athar, Varun Fuloria and Gonzalo De La Mora posted wins Sunday to help the men's squash team earn a 6-3 win over Dartmouth. The Lions got back on track after losing a tight contest to Harvard on Saturday afternoon. Sheikh and Fuloria won in just three games Sunday. Chandra battled through five games at the No. 1 position to earn the victory. Athar also fought through five games to pick up the win at the No. 5 spot.
On the women's side, Simmi Chan, Eva Salzman, Amal Izhar, Kaavya Bansal, Andreea Ghiorghisor, Eugenia Li and Advita Sharma picked up wins Sunday to help Columbia earn a 7-2 win against Dartmouth. The Lions secured their first Ivy victory of the season after rebounding from Saturday's loss to top-ranked Harvard. Chan, Ghiorghisor and Sharma secured dominant wins in just three games. Salzman, Izhar, Bansal and Li all won in four games to help the Lions earn the team victory.
PREVIEWING PENN
Penn enters Friday's match with the top-ranked men's squad in college squash and the No. 3 ranked women's team. The men are a perfect 11-0 with recent victories over No. 4 Trinity and No. 2 Yale. The Penn women are 8-1 overall with their only loss coming to No. 2 Trinity. The Quakers defeated No. 7 Yale in their most recent contest.
PREVIEWING PRINCETON
The Princeton men's team is currently ranked No. 3 with a 5-0 overall record. The Tigers defeated No. 2 Yale and No. 4 Trinity in their most recent matches. Princeton's women's team is ranked No. 4 with a 5-0 record. The Tigesr have defeated No. 7 Yale, No. 2 Trinity and Amherst all in the past week. Princeton will host Cornell before travelling to New York for Sunday's contest.
