Columbia prepares for No. 21 NC State on Sunday
NEW YORK – The sixth-ranked Columbia men's tennis team posted a 7-0 win over Hofstra on Friday night at the Philip and Cheryl Milstein Family Tennis Center to improve to 3-0 overall this season.
Columbia captured the doubles point to take the early lead with wins in the two and three doubles matches. The 75th-ranked duo of Hugo Hashimoto and Jayden Templeman posted a 6-2 win over Josh Reynolds and Enaut Garcia-Beitia in the No. 3 doubles.
Nicolas Kotzen and Michael Zheng clinched the doubles point for the Lions with a 6-3 win against Noa Forste-Dinell and Maxim Michael in the top doubles match. Thanaphat Boosarawongse and Max Westphal paired up in the No. 2 spot, but their match was abandoned as the Lions clinched the doubles point.
Zheng, Kotzen, Westphal, Hashimoto, Boosarawongse and Templeman turned in singles victories to complete Columbia's 7-0 victory over Hofstra.
No. 33 Hashimoto registered the first singles victory of the match with a 6-2, 6-0 win over Matthew Garcia in the No. 4 singles. Westphal followed moments later with a 6-2, 6-1 win against Noa Forste-Dinell in the three singles. No. 1 Zheng then finished off a 6-0, 6-2 victory over Josh Reynolds in the top singles match to give Columbia a 4-0 lead.
The Lions finished playing the remaining three singles matches after taking a 4-0 advantage. Boosarawongse knocked off Enaut Garcia in the No. 5 spot, 6-3, 6-2. Templeman earned a 6-3, 6-3 victory over Vincent Turina in the six singles. No. 42 Kotzen capped off the match with a 7-5, 6-3 win against Maxim Michaels in the No. 2 singles.
