Wrestling Hosts No. 9 Cornell for Senior Day Sunday

Columbia faces Cornell for the final home match of the season Sunday
NEW YORK – The Columbia wrestling team will compete inside Levien Gymnasium for the final time this season on Sunday against No. 9 Cornell as the Lions celebrate senior day.
Action against Cornell is scheduled to begin at 12 p.m. Sunday. A senior day ceremony to recognize Columbia's seven seniors will begin at 11:45 a.m. This year's graduating class includes Jack Bernick, Kenny Duschek, Javen Jovero, Jaden Le, Jack McGill, Matt Romanelli and Dominic Rossetti

LAST TIME OUT
Columbia hosted Penn and Princeton last weekend to kick off the Ivy League dual schedule. The Lions dropped a tight battle to Penn on Friday night before falling to Princeton on Sunday. Columbia claimed four bout victories in the dual against Penn. Jack McGill, Nick Fine, Joe Curtis and Vincent Mueller all contributed bonus points, but Penn pulled away at the end for a 24-20 team victory. McGill secured his second victory of the weekend in the dual against Princeton to become the only Lion to finish the weekend with a 2-0 mark.
IVY LEAGUE WRESTLER OF THE WEEK
Columbia senior 174-pounder Jack McGill earned Ivy League Co-Wrestler of the Week recognition Tuesday after finishing the weekend 2-0 with a win over a top 10 opponent.
"Jack performed well this weekend," Andrew F. Barth Head Coach of Wrestling Donny Pritzlaff said. "As a captain, he has shown tremendous leadership the entire season and his work ethic is a positive example for our program. We look forward to seeing him continue to build upon a solid season."
McGill started the Ivy League slate strong last weekend with two victories. In a high-energy affair Friday night against Penn, McGill posted a 14-3 major decision victory over 7th-ranked Nick Incontrera at 174 pounds. Following the top 10 victory on Friday night, McGill kept the momentum going Sunday to finish the weekend on a strong note. McGill defeated Xavier Giles in a tight battle at 174 that saw McGill battle to a 2-0 decision victory.

Cesar Alvan and Nick Fine are both ranked in the FloWrestling and Intermat polls entering the weekend. Alvan and Fine have been consistently ranked most of the season, while some other Lions have entered the rankings at times.
Alvan, Fine and Joe Curtis were listed in the first edition of the coaches' rankings for the 2025 NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships. Alvan came in at No. 25 at 165 pounds, Fine earned the No. 27 spot at 184 and Curtis ranked 32nd at 197.
