ALBANY, N.Y. – The Columbia wrestling team defeated Maryland, but fell to Lock Haven and Binghamton to finish 1-2 in duals Sunday at the Journeymen Wrestling Armbar at the Armory event.
Columbia moves to 3-4 overall in duals this season after Sunday's action. Columbia's win over Maryland marked the second straight victory over the Terrapins. The Lions prevailed in the last meeting, 18-16, in 2023.
Cesar Alvan was Columbia's only wrestler to finish the day with a perfect 3-0 mark. Alvan posted a 6-4 decision over Caden Dobbins (Lock Haven) in his first match of the day. Alvan secured another decision victory against Maryland's Sam Gautreau to help the Lions win the dual. Alvan then capped off the day with a 9-0 major decision win over Binghamton's Carter Baer.

COLUMBIA VS. LOCK HAVEN
Sulayman Bah dominated for a 28-10 tech fall victory over Lock Haven's Branden Wentzel at 125 pounds to kick off the day for the Lions. However, Lock Haven bounced back to win six of 10 bouts to secure a 25-15 win over the Lions. In addition to Bah,

Nick Fine also posted wins. No. 26 Fine secured a takedown in sudden victory to earn a 4-1 decision victory over 29
th-ranked Colin Fegley.

COLUMBIA VS. MARYLAND
Sulayman Bah was able to set the tone early again in the second dual of the day as he posted a major decision victory to put the Lions in front early.

Joe Curtis joined Bah with victories in the dual against the Terrapins. Columbia and Maryland sat tied, 13-13 heading into the final two bouts of the dual after exchanging scores through the lineup. Curtis stepped up and helped deliver the Columbia victory by pinning Maryland's Chase Mielnik in 4:10 to give Columbia a six-point advantage with one bout to go.
Vincent Mueller was defeated by tech fall at 285, but Columbia held on for the 19-18 victory.

Binghamton got off to a hot start in the final dual of the day as the Bearcats won the opening five bouts of the dual.
Cesar Alvan earned Columbia's first bout victory of the dual with a major decision over Carter Baer at 165 pounds.
Nick Fine and
Joe Curtis posted back-to-back pins at 184 and 197 to give Columbia a chance to tie the team score in the 285 bout.
Vincent Mueller was defeated by decision in the heavyweight bout though to give Binghamton the 25-16 victory.
