Alexander Hedge ‘19CC Wins Bronze Medal at 2025 World Rowing Championships

Charlotte Buck ‘18CC placed fifth in the A final and Sam Melvin ‘19CC took first in the C final
NEW YORK — Columbia rowing alumnus Alexander Hedge '19CC won a bronze medal with Team USA in the men's eight at the 2025 World Rowing Championships in Shanghai, China.
Hedge is the first Columbia heavyweight male to medal at a World Championship while competing in two priority boats (men's eight and men's four). It was the USA's first medal in the men's eight at the World Championships since 2017.
Fellow alumni Charlotte Buck '18CC placed fifth in the A final with the women's eight and Sam Melvin '19CC took first in the C final with men's double skulls. Buck (women's eight) and Hedge (alternate) also represented Team USA at the 2024 Olympics in Paris.
Hedge rowed at the stroke positions for the Varsity Eight in the EARC Sprints and IRA National Championships his senior year at Columbia. The Morristown, N.J. native rowed with the Varsity Eight for three years and was a member of the 2016 IRA All-Academic Team.
Buck was a First Team All-Ivy League selection in 2018, two-time First Team All-Region selection by the Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (2017 and 2018), and was selected to the Pocock Second Team All-America squad during her Columbia career. The Nyack, N.Y. native is a two-time Olympian.
In 2019, Melvin was the USRowing U23 Male Athlete of the Year and won the U23 World Rowing Championship in single sculls.
