JOHNSTOWN, Pa. — The Columbia men's golf team earned a tie for fourth in the Red Flash Invitational, which was held Monday and Tuesday at Sunnehana Country Club.
Leading the way for Columbia was
George Rubelsky. The senior earned his second top 10 in four fall tournaments, tying for eighth at even-par 210. Rubelsky opened with an even 70 in Monday's first round and posted five birdies as part of a 3-under 67 in Round 2. He concluded with a 73 on Tuesday.
Five Lions finished in the top 30 of the 66-man field. Competing as an individual, first year
Sam Johnson had his best performance to date, carding rounds of 70, 70 and 71 to tie for 14th at 1 over par. First years
Neil Kulkarni (+2) and
Alejandro Formosa (+4) were tied for 18th and 24th, respectively. Meanwhile, senior
Darren Pang (+5) was tied for 26th.
Columbia's best team round of the tournament came in Monday's second round. The Lions were 6 under par, which included Rubelsky's 67, a 2-under 68 from Kulkarni, a 1-under 69 from Formosa and an even 70 from Pang. The Lions finished 7 over in the team event to earn their third team Top 5 in four fall tournaments.
The Red Flash Invitational concludes Columbia's fall schedule. The Lions open their spring season February 17-18 at The Savannah Intercollegiate. The tournament will take place at The Golf Club at Savannah Harbor.
