
Six Wrestlers Capture Third at Black Knight Invite

WEST POINT, N.Y. – Six Columbia wrestlers finished in third place, with an additional three finishing in the top-5 at the Black Knight Invite hosted by Army at Christl Arena on Sunday.
Finishing third for the Lions were Cesar Alvan, Aaron Ayzerov, Sulayman Bah, Richard Fedalen, Nick Fine and Adam Haselius in their respective weight classes. Vincent Mueller finished fourth in the 285 weight class, while Evin Gursoy and Lorenzo Frezza finished in fifth. Marco Frinzi and Roman Lermer placed sixth.
Bah went 2-1 on the day; he began the tournament with a win by fall over Chattanooga's Tyler Tice. In the semifinals, he lost to No. 1 Luke Lilledahl out of Penn State via an 18-5 technical fall. In the third-place bout, he rebounded to defeat No. 29 Charlie Farmer of Army by an 11-2 major decision.
Alvan went 3-1 on the day. He opened his run with an 18-0 tech fall win over Army's Ryan Alvarado. In the quarterfinals, he defeated Penn State's Sam Beckett by a 14-3 major decision. After falling to No. 21 Gunner Filipowicz of Army in the semifinals via a 5-2 decision, he captured third with an 8-5 win over Chattanooga's Mason Reiniche.
Ayzerov, who is ranked No. 16 in the 184 division, began his run with an 8-0 major decision in the quarterfinals, defeating Chattanooga's Landon Jones. In the semifinals, Penn State's Asher Cunningham defeated Ayzerov via an 11-3 major decision. In the third-place bout, Ayzerov got back into the win column with a 4-0 win over teammate Joe Curtis.
Fedalen opened his run in the semifinals. There he fell to Penn State's Connor Peirce via an 18-4 major decision. In the third-place match, he defeated Army's Mason Barvitskie via a 5-0 decision.
Nick Fine went 3-1 in the 174 division. He opened the tournament with back-to-back wins in the round of 16 and the quarter finals. In the semifinals, he fell to Penn State's William Henckel via a 7-3 decision, but closed out the tournament with a 21-5 tech fall win over Army's Cooper Haase.
At the 197 division, Haselius began his day with an 11-2 major decision victory over Army's Reid Schroeder. In the quarterfinals, he took down LIU's John Dusza via a fall in the second period. After losing by fall in the semifinals, Haselius won the third-place bout with a 13-3 major decision over Army's Chris Murphy.
The Lions will return to action on Friday, December 5, when they travel to Las Vegas to participate in the annual Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invite.
