
Fencing Goes Perfect at Season Opening Meet

The Lions men and women each went 3-0 on the day
NEW YORK — The Columbia fencing teams had a decisive home opener Sunday afternoon, with both the men's and women's teams finishing 3-0 against Stevens, NJIT, and Johns Hopkins. Starting the season out strong, both teams are 3-0 after the first match.
Evelyn Cheng and Rachael Kim both finished at 7-0 on the day, with Alanna Xue finishing at 6-0 and Mikayla Chusid at 6-1 for women's foil. For the men, Colby Harley ended the day at 7-0 with Nick Harvey at 7-2 in men's sabre. In men's foil, Marsel Nagimov also had a strong performance at 5-0.
Starting the day with Stevens, women's foil and sabre both were flawless at 9-0 to set the tone in a 24-3 victory. Against the Ducks, the men earned a hard-fought 15-12 victory.
In round two against NJIT, the men's and women's foil teams finished undefeated, helping both squads win. The men picked up a 17-10 victory, and the women went on for a comfortable 25-2 decision.
In the final round, the women's team coasted to a 21-6 victory over Johns Hopkins. The men had another close matchup, but came away with a 16-11 win.
The Lions have next weekend off before competing at the Western Invitational, hosted by Air Force, from November 22-23
