Lions display depth at first meet of the season
BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Columbia opened its 2025-26 season Sunday at the Journeymen Collegiate Classic at Freedom High School. Senior Nick Fine and junior Vincent Mueller each took second in their pools, leading the Lions.
"Today was just the beginning," Andrew F. Barth Head Coach of Wrestling Donny Pritzlaf said. "We tested ourselves, learned where we stand, and got a glimpse of our potential. The feedback we earned will fuel our progress—we'll be sharper, stronger, and prepared. We learned a lot, we grew, and we're hungry to improve. This team is built to respond, and we'll be better. It's time to recover and get back to work for Friday night's match at Indiana.
Fine went 2-1 in the 174 Black bracket. He opened the tournament with a major decision victory over Maryland's Dom Solis. In the second round, he earned a 2-0 win over Indian's Orland Cruz. In the championship bout, he fell to Binghamton's Carter Baer 9-3 in overtime.
Mueller also opened the tournament 2-0. Competing in the 285 Black bracket, he opened the tournament with a 1-3 win over Binghamton's Cayden Bevis. In the second round, he made quick work of Army's BJ Russell, winning by fall in 29 seconds. In the finale, Mueller lost to Duke's Connor Barket 14-7.
