Weiss, Lions Stay Hot with 71-48 Win at Dartmouth

Columbia remains perfect (7-0) at the halfway point of the Ivy League season
HANOVER, N.H. – Columbia women's basketball won its ninth straight game and remained undefeated in the Ivy League, topping Dartmouth, 71-48, Saturday evening at Leede Arena.
The Lions (16-4, 7-0 Ivy) got a game-high 25 points from Riley Weiss. The sophomore from just outside of New York City in Hewlett registered her third straight 25-point game. Saturday, she went 8-of-16 from the floor, including 4-for-7 from deep, also grabbing six rebounds. Weiss did all that in just 25 minutes, playing only eight minutes of a second half that turned into a runaway.
"This was the first back-to-back of the Ivies and they are guts games," Columbia head coach Megan Griffith said. "You've got to come in with a clear head and be able to execute a game plan. I felt that Riley was really locked in from the get-go. Our subs have been practicing all week knowing, 'Hey, we are going to need you on Saturday night.' I thought they stepped up in a big way with very focused energy when they came onto the court. That really picked up our starters and allowed them to play freer in the second half."
Junior Susie Rafiu scored a dozen, eight of which came in the third quarter. Sophomore Blau Tor registered career-highs of 11 points and nine rebounds. Her nine boards led all players. "It was a tough weekend because we had back-to-back games," Tor said. "We had a low start but we recovered nicely. We're excited for the next game."
Dartmouth (8-12, 2-5 Ivy) jumped out to a 10-2 lead and stayed in front 17-10 at the end of the quarter. The Big Green were 8-of-14 from the floor in the period.
The Lions regained their footing in the second and went on an 11-0 run to go ahead, 23-19. Weiss had Columbia's first seven points of the quarter before Marija Avlijas and Nasi Simmons combined for the next six. A 5-0 burst just before halftime, including a deep buzzer-beating triple from Weiss, polished off a 22-7 quarter with Columbia up by eight.
Weiss stayed hot into the third quarter to open up the lead. She was fouled on a 3-point attempt, hit all three free throws, sank her next 3-point attempt at the 7:15 mark and drilled another at 5:35. The last gave her 21 points in the game and shot the Lions in front 45-29. It was never competitive after that. Columbia led by as many as 27 in the fourth.
Claire Meyer led Dartmouth with 16 points (8-11 FG). Victoria Page scored 14 with five rebounds, three assists, two steals and a block.
Columbia visits Brown (10-10, 4-3 Ivy) next Saturday. Opening tip from the Pizzitola Sports Center, the site of 2025 Ivy Madness, is scheduled for 2 p.m.
