No. 8 Men’s Tennis Blanks No. 46 Tulsa, 7-0

Columbia improves to 7-3 overall this season

NEW YORK – The eighth-ranked Columbia men's tennis team posted a 7-0 victory over No. 46 Tulsa on Friday night inside the Philip and Cheryl Milstein Family Tennis Center.
 
Columbia improves to 7-3 overall this season with a 6-1 mark at home after defeating Tulsa. The Lions will wrap up the weekend Sunday with another home match against No. 67 Penn State.
 
Columbia secured the critical doubles point to start the match with a 1-0 advantage. The Lions turned in victories in the one and three doubles.

No. 48 Michael Zheng and Nicolas Kotzen opened the scoring with a 6-2 win against Alex Okonkwo and Timothy Seger in the top-seeded match. The Tulsa duo of Luis Felipe Miguel and Gus Tettamble responded by defeating Max Westphal and Sachin Palta 6-4 in the No. 2 doubles. The Columbia duo of Hugo Hashimoto and Jayden Templeman held off Will Pellegrini and Calum Jestin to clinch the doubles point for the Lions with a 6-4 victory in the No. 3 pairing.

With all of the singles matches tightly contested, Kotzen opened the scoring in the No. 2 spot with a 7-5, 6-3 victory over Miguel. Palta and Hashimoto followed suit, earning wins in the No. 6 and No. 4 positions to clinch the victory for the Lions. Palta bested Tettamble 6-2, 7-6 (7-5), while Hashimoto rallied to defeat Nikola Puntaric 6-2, 3-6, 6-3.

Zheng, Westphal, and Thanaphat Boosarawongse closed out the match with the final three singles wins. Zheng outlasted Okonkwo 6-4, 6-7 (1-7), 6-2 in the top singles match, while Westphal downed Seger 6-2, 3-6, 6-2 in No. 3 singles. Boosarawongse ended the proceedings, rallying to win 3-6, 6-1, 6-4 over Reiya Komagata in the No. 5 spot.
