Thompson’s Game-Winner Completes 74-72 Comeback Win Over Brown

The Lions were down 10 with 3:15 left; Snap losing streak

NEW YORK — Columbia men's basketball overcame a 15-point deficit over the final eight minutes on Saturday afternoon to earn a fashionable comeback victory over Brown, 74-72, inside a boisterous Schiller Court at Levien Gymnasium.

The Lions (12-8, 1-6) took their first lead of the day on Blair Thompson's game-winning lay-up with eight seconds left. A Kenny Noland free throw tied the game at 72. He missed the second and Thompson proceeded to grab two offensive boards before laying in the game-winner on a putback. A last-second three-point attempt from Brown's Kino Lilly Jr. was no good.

Brown led by as many as 15 points with 8:21 left. Two lay-ups from Gerard O'Keefe sparked the run. O'Keefe led Columbia in scoring with a game-high 22 points on 8-of-9 shooting from the field.

Columbia broke off a 17-3 run over the last 5:08 to storm back and steal the win from Brown (10-10, 2-5). The Lions trailed 40-33 at the half and finished 17-22 from the free throw line.

Avery Brown and Thompson both had 11 points. Thompson had a career-high 16 rebounds as well. Noland poured in 13 points and played the entire game. The Lions tallied five steals in the second half and out-rebounded the Bears 19-14 in the final 20 minutes.

Columbia hits the road for a back-to-back at Dartmouth on Friday at 6 p.m. and Harvard on Saturday at 6 p.m. Both games will air live on ESPN+.
