Women’s Tennis Falls Short to Yale in ECAC Championship Match

Columbia takes second place at the ECAC Indoor Championships

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – The Columbia women's tennis team advanced to the ECAC Championship match against Yale for the second straight season, but this time Yale came out on top with a 4-2 victory on Sunday afternoon.

Columbia captured the doubles point for the third straight match to help build an early 1-0 advantage against Yale on Sunday. The Columbia duo of Gayathri Krishnan and Sophia Strugnell took a 6-2 win over Mirabelle Brettkelly and Shyla Aggarwal in the No. 2 position. Emily Baek and Amber Yin clinched the doubles point for the Lions with a 6-3 victory against Julia Werdiger and Angela Huang in the No. 3 doubles.

Yale bounced back in singles play to earn four victories that give the Bulldogs a 4-2 victory over Columbia. Orly Ogilvy, Werdiger, Erin Ha and Huang posted singles victories for Yale.

Krishnan earned Columbia's lone singles win of the day with a 6-3, 6-0 performance against Aggarwal in the No. 3 spot. Keita won the first set over Brettkelly and held a lead in the second set when Yale clinched the team victory.
