Baseball Earns Series Win at Princeton with 9-2 Victory

The Lions sit atop the Ivy standings after two weekends of league play

PRINCETON, N.J. — Columbia baseball defeated Princeton, 9-2, on Sunday at Clarke Field and took two of three from the Tigers this weekend.

The Lions (10-12, 5-1) hold a one-game lead in the Ivy League standings. Princeton (7-18, 4-2) is tied for second place with Cornell and Penn.

Columbia's starting pitcher, Thomas Santana, was excellent and picked up his third straight win. The junior went six innings and recorded three perfect frames. Santana struck out six, surrendered four hits, and didn't allow a walk.

The Lions scored first for the sixth straight game and took a 1-0 lead in the second inning on a Jackson Brewer RBI ground out.

Columbia expanded the lead with four more runs on three run-scoring singles in the third to take a 5-0 advantage. Sam Miller, Jack Kail, and Griffin Palfrey all had RBI singles in the frame.

After Cole Fellows singled home a run to put Columbia ahead 6-0 in the sixth inning, Anton Lazits tacked on the exclamation point with a three-run shot. It was Lazits' Ivy League-leading eighth home run of the season.

Will Harrigan nailed down the final three innings to earn his first-career save. The sophomore allowed just two runs on a pair of hits.

Columbia travels to Hofstra on Wednesday for a midweek matchup. First pitch at University Field is set for 3 p.m.
