Lions make quick work of Tigers on the road
PRINCETON, N.J. – The 10th-ranked Columbia men's tennis team made quick work of host Princeton, defeating the Tigers 4-0 on Sunday afternoon.
Columbia (15-4, 5-0 Ivy) has won five matches in a row, and has yet to surrender a point in conference play, sweeping all five opponents. Princeton (19-8, 3-2 Ivy) has now lost two straight and falls to 10-2 at home this year.
In doubles play, the Lions took the early momentum with strong performances at the No. 3 and No. 2 spots. Hugo Hashimoto and Jayden Templeman continued their excellent play, defeating Landon Ardila and Aleksandar Mitric 6-0. Max Westphal and Sachin Palta secured the doubles point with an efficient 6-3 win over Princeton's Ellis Short and Milan Markovits.
In singles play, it was Westphal who scored the first point for the Lions at the No. 3 spot, defeating Ardila in straight sets, 6-2, 6-2. Michael Zheng followed that up with a convincing 6-2, 6-3 win over the Tiger's Fnu Nidunjianzan. Palta clinched the match with a 6-2, 6-4 win over Evan Wen.
