HANOVER, N.H. – The ninth-ranked Columbia men's tennis team quickly took care of business, sweeping host Dartmouth 4-0, on Sunday at the Boss Tennis Center. With the win, the Lions captured the outright Ivy League Championship and the automatic bid to the NCAA Tennis Championships.
Saturday's win over Harvard saw the Lions clinch at least a share of the Ivy League title, the 18th championship in program history. With the win over Dartmouth, the Lions captured their 13th outright title, and first since 2019.
Columbia (17-4) finishes Ivy League play with a perfect 7-0 record. The Lions only surrendered one point all year to an Ivy league opponent. It is also the Lions' 13th win over a team ranked in the ITA rankings.
The Lions captured the doubles point with wins at the No. 1 and No. 3 courts.
Hugo Hashimoto and
Jayden Templeman got the first win of the afternoon, defeating the Big Green's duo Denny Bao and Alex Knox Jones 6-2.
Michael Zheng and
Nicolas Kotzen took down Dartmouth's duo of Yujiro Onuma and Walled Qadir 6-2 to clinch the doubles point.
In singles play the Lions top three players clinched the match. Senior
Max Westphal defeated Dartmouth's Hikaru Takeda 6-4, 6-2. Kotzen defeated Henry Ren 7-5, 6-2 just before Zheng could clinch the match with a 7-6, 6-1 win over Guerrero Alvarez.
