Lazits helped slug the Lions to a perfect 4-0 week
PRINCETON, N.J. — After leading the Columbia baseball team to a perfect 4-0 week, senior Anton Lazits has been named Ivy League Player of the Week, as announced by the conference office on Monday afternoon.
Lazits was electric at the plate, slashing .529/.556/1.235 with nine hits, eight runs scored, and seven RBI. He recorded multiple hits in three of four games and delivered at least one RBI in every contest.
The Pittsfield, Massachusetts, native played a key role in Columbia's midweek win over Fairfield, going 3-for-4 with two doubles, a triple, and three runs scored against a Stags team that had won 13 of its last 14 games. Lazits followed that up with a monster performance in the weekend sweep of Dartmouth, highlighted by a 3-for-4, four-RBI effort in game two, which included a go-ahead three-run home run in the sixth inning.
In total, eight of his nine hits went for extra bases, helping him post a 1.235 slugging percentage on the week.
The honor marks Lazits' first Ivy League weekly award of his career and is the first second Lion to pick up the award, joining Cole Fellows (March 24).
Additionally, shortstop Sam Miller and starting pitcher Jagger Edwards were named to the Ivy League Honor Roll. Miller went 10-for-18 with three homers and eight RBI, while Edwards tossed five scoreless frames with four strikeouts in the series finale against the Big Green.
Columbia is back in action on Wednesday, April 23, at Stony Brook. First pitch is slated for 3:30 p.m. on FloSports.
