Lions were selected as the No. 8 overall seed in the NCAA Tournament
NEW YORK – For the third consecutive-season, the Columbia men's tennis team will host the first and second rounds of the NCAA Division I Men's Tennis Championships at the Philip & Cheryl Milstein Family Tennis Center after receiving the No. 8 overall seed, as announced by the NCAA on Monday evening.
This marks the fifth overall time the Lions have served as a regional host, doing it at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in 2018, 2019, and 2023. Last year, Columbia hosted at the Milstein Family Tennis Center for the first time.
With their 18th all-time NCAA Tournament berth, the Lions will take on Binghamton (13-11, 4-3 NEC) on Friday May 2nd at 1 p.m. ET, following the matchup between Clemson (21-7, 8-5 ACC) vs. Quinnipiac (12-11, 8-0 MAAC). The winners of each match will square off at 1 p.m. on Saturday.
Columbia is fresh off its 18th Ivy League title, and 13th outright championship after going 7-0 in conference play. Overall, the Lions are 17-4 which includes 13 wins over teams ranked in the ITA rankings. The Lions' only four losses came against teams ranked in the top-25. In conference play, the Lions surrendered just one point, sweeping six of the seven Ivy League foes. At the Milstein Family Tennis Center, the Lions went 12-1 – their only loss came at the hands of No. 1 seed Wake Forest.
Last season, Columbia advanced to the quarterfinals for the first time in program history after defeating Arizona in the Super Regionals. The Lions fell to the top-seeded Buckeyes 4-2 in Columbus.
Columbia's meeting with Binghamton on Friday will mark the 12th meeting all-time between the two teams. The two first went head-to-head on February 4, 2005, where the Lions earned a 7-0 victory. All-time, the Lions are 11-0 against the Bearcats.
