NEW YORK - The eighth-ranked Columbia men's tennis team swept visiting Brown, 7-0, on Saturday afternoon at the Philip and Cheryl Milstein Family Tennis Center.
The Lions (12-4, 2-0 Ivy) have won two matches in a row and are now 10-1 at home this season. Columbia claimed the doubles point thanks to a pair of 6-2 victories in the No. 2 and No. 3 spots.
On the No. 2 doubles court, Columbia's duo of
Max Westphal and
Sachin Palta made quick work of Brown's duo of Alex Finkelstein/Zander Bravo. The Lions' No. 3 duo of
Hugo Hashimoto/
Jayden Templeman clinched the doubles point with an efficient 6-2 victory over Sam Feldman/James Lian.
The Lions took the singles, winning all six matches. Hashimoto got momentum going with a straight sets victory over Noah Hernandez (6-2, 6-2) at the No. 3 spot. Kotzen finished immediately after with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Oliver Worth in the No. 2 spot.
Zheng, the top ranked player in the nation, clinched the match with a 6-2, 7-5 win over Alex Finkelstein at the No. 1 spot. The two sides played out the rest of the match with
Thanaphat Boosarawongse defeating James Lian 6-2, 6-2 at the No. 5 spot. At the No. 4 Spot, Palta defeated Lukas Phimvongsa 6-0, 4-6, (12-10).
Jayden Templeman closed out the match with a 6-2, 6-7 (2-7), (10-4) win over Zander Bravo at the No. 6 spot.
