NEW YORK — The Columbia track & field team competed in three meets this weekend: the Florida Relays, the METS Outdoor Championship, and the Sam Howell Distance Carnival. The Lions traveled to Gainesville, Randall's Island, and Princeton for these competitions.
At the Sam Howell Distance Carnival, the Lions had a fantastic meet.
Leanna Johnston had yet another first place finish, this time in the 10000m, winning the race with a time of 35:17.90. The women had two other top finishers.
Elia Ton-That placed second in the 3000m steeplechase with a time of 10:24.53. Rory Claire finished third in the 800m with a time of 2:05.17.
The men's team also had a good meet with two second and two third place finishes.
In the 800m,
Matt Gatune placed second with a time of 1:49.37 and
Justin Gottlieb finished third with a time of 1:50.46.
Finneas Colescott placed second in the 5000m with a time of 14:05.38. The 3000m steeplechase had
Brett Bishop placing third with a time of 8:56.70.

Meanwhile, Columbia was even more successful at the METS Outdoor Championship with a multitude of first place and other top finishes.
For the men,
Nicholas Hayden and
George Blaha were winners. Hayden went 1:54.53 in the 800m dash with junior
Austin Rios-Colon coming in second with a time of 1:55.67. Blaha won the 5000m with a time of 14:51.58. In the field events,
Toby Tan placed third in shot put with a mark of 14.75.
The women's winners were first-year
Ava Thomas with a time of 17:44.95 in the 5000m, sophomore
Jessica Thompson in pole vault with a mark of 3.65m, and the 4x800m relay with a time of 9:21.27.
Maggie Bennet and
Caroline Jankowich also competed in the 5000m. Bennett placed second with a time of 17:46.79 and Jankowich placed third at 17:57.91. In the 400m,
Sydney Goldson placed second with a time of 56:55.
Aminah Martin placed third in the 100m hurdles with a time of 14.68. There were two top finishers.
Emily Donovan placed third in discuss with a mark of 38.71m, and
Camille Clay placed second in javelin with a mark of 39.95m.

Finally, the Lions had a few top finishers at the Florida Relays.
In long jump,
Madison Williams placed eigth with a mark of 5.79m.
Parker Kim finished ninth with a mark of 61.61m in hammer throw and
Obiora Okeke placed ninth in discus with a mark of 53.62m.
