Lions upset bid comes up short
NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The 72nd-ranked Columbia women's tennis team battled but could not pull off the upset, falling to No. 69 Yale 4-2 on Sunday afternoonm Cullman-Heyman Tennis Center.
Columbia (11-7, 2-1 Ivy) saw its unbeaten run in Ivy League play come to an end. The Lions also saw their winning streak end at three. Yale (11-7, 2-1 Ivy) has improved to 6-0 at home this year.
The Lions opened the match with momentum, winning the doubles point. Malak El Allami and Fatima Keita defeated Orly Ogilvy and Erin Ha 6-3. Gayathri Krishnan and Sophia Strugnell clinched the point with a 6-3 win over the duo of Mirabelle Brettkelly/Shyla Aggarwal.
In the singles point, the Lions got a win from Keita who defeated Erin Ha 2-6, 6-2, 6-4. The Bulldogs came back to win the match, thanks to wins at the No. 4, No. 5, No. 6 and No. 1 courts.
